Mysore Ashtanga Guide Lines
- Principles of Mysore Practice
Mysore is a self-led practice with individual guidance from the teacher.
The teacher supports your process—they come to you.
You are encouraged to trust the process and develop awareness.
At the same time: you are your own teacher—listen to your body at all times.
- Shala Etiquette
Enter quietly and respect the calm space.
No talking during practice.
No drinking water during practice (unless medically necessary).
Phones and smartwatches are not allowed on the mat and must be on silent.
Keep your space minimal: no jewelry or unnecessary items around the mat.
After practice, speak in a hushed voice.
- Practice Flow & Protocol
The teacher will guide the room collectively when needed (e.g., calling Samasthitiḥ).
When chanting, wait quietly outside until it finishes.
Follow the teacher’s instructions at all times.
- Hygiene & Personal Boundaries
Maintain good personal hygiene: clean body and clean practice clothes.
Avoid perfume, heavy oils, or lotions.
Respect shared space and others’ experience.
- Adjustments & Consent
Adjustments are part of the practice but always respectful.
Clear communication is essential during or outside practice.
Students can opt out using yes/no adjustment cards.
Teachers stay aware of physical and emotional boundaries and prioritize safety.
- Safety & Responsibility
Practice within your limits.
Inform the teacher of injuries, pregnancy, or physical limitations.
The studio provides a first aid kit including ice packs and antiseptic.
In case of injury or incident, follow studio protocol (see Terms & Conditions – tbd).
- Community & Teaching Structure
Mysore is now offered once per week, but we keep an open line to increase to more
times per week.
Teachers rotate according to schedule.
The environment supports deeper exchange between teacher and student and
consistent development.
